I always found your limited colour palettes so pleasant to see and to stay admiring(zooming🤭) all the details 😍 You may not fully understand how colour works yet, but your work always transmits me the opposite 🤍
Thanks for sharing this, Amber! I completely agree with your logic, which you use to improve your color skills. For most of my childhood, I went to gouache drawing courses, where we painted landscapes from photographs. And our teacher's parting words about choosing colors were: "Always look and try to understand." We didn't study color theory, we learned to notice the color combinations around us. 😌 At the moment, I like to use magazines as an inspiration to create color combinations. Especially photos of prepared food and table setting. 🙂
You're welcome Marina! I love using magazines as inspiration too! I wish I had taken the gouache drawing courses when I was small! Thanks for sharing that with me:)
There was a year in my artistic journey where I drew and painted almost solely in grey scale before I braved diving into colour. Unknowingly it laid such a good foundation for the colour work because as you say - it’s all about value.
Love how you turned your drawing into grey scale ti check the values. I used to do that a lot but have been forgetting about it recently. Thanks for the reminder!
You're welcome, Nino! :) Isn't it fascinating how simply turning a drawing to grayscale can help us check the values? I'm always amazed by the great artists of the past who achieved so much without the aid of modern technology.
Thank you Teresa! I really appreciate that(still not knowing how colour works😂)

Lovely article about color! I’ve been in a funk with colour lately but this has inspired me to keep experimenting 🙌
Thank you Laura! We just have to keep experimenting and it's actually part of the fun! :)
